Abstract
This article describes content of a weekly, semester-long professional development seminar for geography graduate students, introducing aspects of careers in academia, government, business and the non-profit worlds normally missing from master’s and Ph.D. programs, e.g., contemporary critiques of American higher education; planning a career; effective participation in professional meetings; preparing to teach; the world of scholarly publishing; obtaining research money; how colleges and universities function; tenure processes; research ethics; and work/life balance.
