Abstract
Estimates are made of the threshold electric fields required for parametric amplification or for pumping parametric oscillations or limiting. The estimates for parametric amplification are so large for reasonable length crystals that it does not appear feasible. However the thresholds in geometries suitable for oscillation or limiting appear to be much lower and these interactions may be feasible. Several pump electrode geometries and circuit matching techniques have been investigated for efficiently generating the pump fields. An interdigital electrode separated from the LiNbO//3 surface by a small air gap was found to be the most efficient pump geometry.
