Abstract
Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck accounts for approximately 5% of all reported malignancies. 1 Surgery and radiation therapy provide adequate treatment for early tumors; however for stage III and IV disease, the survival rate is less than 50% with a 20 to 30% incidence of distant metastases. The pattern of metastases is usually cervical nodes, lung, or bone (commonly spine). Disseminated metastases can occur to the brain or liver but are infrequent.
