Abstract
This special article describes the EMS system implemented in Chicago. In this 3.5 millions inhabitants city the prehospital care system in serviced by approximately 600 Paramedics from the Chicago Fire Department. The Chicago Fire Department dispatcher service receive about 250.000 calls for year and 150.000 patients are transported to 46 recouring hospital. Fifty seven advanced life support ambulances of the Chicago Fire Department and 20 private ALS ambulances are included in this system. The medical response, the medical control, and the basis of patient management are analysed in this article.
