Abstract

To evaluate the quality of water that will be stored in a proposed reservoir, it is necessary to consider both the quality of the inflow water and various processes that will occur within the reservoir. This paper reports on a study of existing water quality in the Animas and the La Plata Rivers in the vicinity of the proposed Animas-La Plate project and to make a limnological evaluation of the proposed Ridges Basin Reservoir in Colorado. The limnology evaluation included predictions of: the trophic status of the reservoir, the extent of oxygen depletion in its hypolimnion, and the retention of heavy metals in the reservoir. Refs.
