Abstract

The pollen grain wall structure of Caytonanthus arberi was studied with SEM and TEM. The monosulcate, bisaccate pollen grain of this taxon has an alveolar wall structure that is more like that found in saccate Conifers than primitive Angiosperms. Pollen grain morphology does not support a Caytonialean ancestry for the Angiosperms.
