N2 - We carefully analyze several of the specific forms and parametrizations of the3He polarization potentials that have previously been proposed by various authors. We find that the resulting polarization potentials are quantitatively significantly different from each other, due to the presence of a number of free parameters. In some cases, this introduces questionable features, which we discuss. We then examine how to reduce the number of free parameters, and, at the same time, how to eliminate the unreasonable features mentioned above. We conclude that, while polarization potentials with physically reasonable characteristics can thus be found, the question of fitting experimentally measured transport properties and neutron data with a single set of parameters is still open.
