Abstract

A sedentary lifestyle is a serious and pervasive health problem in the United States. Changing health behaviors can be a slow process bur is worth the effort. If an individual does not make suggested changes, it does not mean that the exercise message is lost. Individuals often need to hear the exercise message repeatedly to make a change. Reiterating the importance of physical activity confirms the importance of an active lifestyle. Stressing the importance of regular activity increases longevity and quality of life in people who abandon their sedentary ways.
