Abstract

Soluble surfactants self-assemble in solution once their critical micellization concentration is reached. Above this concentration the shape of the micelles is governed by the geometrical constraints of the surfactant molecules. The concept of a packing parameter, introduced by Israelachvili, can be used as a qualitative tool to predict aggregate shape.
