Abstract

Various methods are used for measuring flow properties of pharmaceutical powders, such as angle of repose, flow through an orifice, compressibility index, hausner ratio, shear cell, etc. Among these methods, shear cell test provides quantitative and reproducible results. Some pharmaceutical applications of ring shear cell were introduced, including quantifying the effects of particulate properties on powder flow properties; setting the bar for powder flow properties in successful high speed tableting; and profoundly improving flow properties of a cohesive powder by nanocoating.
