Abstract

Spirotricyclic dienones are conveniently prepared by palladium-catalyzed cyclizations of enol triflate derivatives of 2-dienyl-l,3-cyclohexanediones. The use of chiral (nonracemic) ligands allows assembly of these products with moderate enantioselectivity, demonstrating a potentially powerful new method for catalytic asymmetric construction of quaternary carbon stereocenters.
