Abstract
Recently, laminated antiferromagnetically coupled (LAC) media are being considered as potential candidates to extend the life of longitudinal recording. In these structures, the reduction of Mrδ is achieved by the cancellation of the recording layer's moments from the thinner (bottom) layer's moment. Therefore, these structures have a larger thermal stability, even at low Mrδ values. Since the LAC media are considerably different from the conventional recording media due to the presence of antiferromagnetic coupling, it is expected that the recording physics in LAC media might be different too. Therefore, in this work, we have investigated the recording performance of LAC media with two and three magnetic layers using a spin-stand. Comparison is made with the recording performance of a conventional single layered media.
