Abstract
Osteosarcoma of foot is a rarely reported entity. Here we report a case of calcaneal osteosarcoma in a 20 year old male, who presented to our institute with a 2 month old history of pain and swelling in the right foot The radiograph showed sclerotic lesion involving almost the entire calcaneum. Histologically, numerous osteoblasts with high mitotic figures were found in the background of osteoid and myxoid stroma, confirming the diagnosis of osteosarcoma. Below knee amputation was done. Patient at the end of 15 months had a healthy stump and no evidence of distant metastasis. Even though the osteosarcoma at the site of calcaneum occurs less frequently, adherence to basic clinical principles of diagnosis would help to decrease the occurence of major treatment errors.
