Abstract

Forest products research and development organizations has the ability to contribute to a nations' well-being taking into consideration of which, a review of forest products and related research organizations beyond the boundaries of the United States was undertaken during the year 2004-2005. Some of the organizations in the review included Cooperative Research Center for Sustainable Production Forestry (CRC), ENSIS, Forest Engineering Research Institute of Canada (FERIC), Forintek Canada Corporation (FORINTEK), Research Institute of Wood Industry (CRIWI), European Forest Institute (EFI), and Association Forest Cellulose (AFOCEL). The financial investments made by the 40 sample organizations in 2004 were substantial though their investments were uneven in quality and often not available publicly. A variety of standards used for measuring the performance included reporting results of programs, asset-liability statements, accomplishment of targets, and benchmarks of social responsibility.
