Abstract

The surface topology and internal microstructure of spin-cast diblock copolymers of poly(ethylene-propylene) (PEP), poly(ethyl-ethylene) (PEE), and poly(ethylene) (PE) have been investigated by phase contrast microscopy and neutron reflection. In all the films, the block with the smaller statistical segment length preferentially segregates to both the air and the substrate surface, regardless of the substrate used. Interesting temperature and time dependent hysteresis effects are investigated for the temperature windows where multiple ordered phases are observed in the bulk.
