Abstract
The development of the second-generation interlocking femoral nail has been a recent major advancement in the treatment of subtrochanteric as well as ipsilateral femoral shaft and neck fractures. Careful attention to detail allows the procedure to be performed in a closed fashion with a high rate of fracture union. A simple working classification, operative technique, and post-operative regimen are described.
