Abstract

Open distal clavicle excision is performed infrequently due to the increase in arthroscopic technique. Open technique remains a useful procedure for patients undergoing concomitant shoulder arthroplasty, open rotator cuff repair, or coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction. When performed properly, open technique has demonstrated equivalent outcomes in shoulder function and patient satisfaction for treating acromioclavicular (AC) joint pain compared to arthroscopic technique.
