Abstract

The Sm-A phase found in (14PMB)CN was characterized using a null-transmission ellipsometer (NTE). It was confirmed that the relevant phase is a uniaxial Sm-A phase. Furthermore, a new molecular arrangement in the surface induced layers in the low temperature window of the bulk Sm-A phase was discovered.
