Abstract
The concentration of 5-hydroxymethlfurfural (5-HMF) in glucose biphasic hydrolysate is rapidly determined by UV spectroscopy. With 5-HMF as the standard sample and the distilled water as the controlling blank instead of water-dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) biphasic solution, the absorbance of 5-HMF at 284 nm is analyzed. The results show that a favorable linear relationship between the absorbance and the concentration of 5-HMF can be obtained with good reproducibility when the concentration of 5-HMF is within the range of 0-0.10 mmol/L. This method is suitable for rapid and accurate determination of 5-HMF.
