Abstract

A fibroblast-populated collagen gel that can be implanted in the wound environment was developed to combine the quantitative nature of in vitro studies with the greater physiological relevance of in vivo animal models. Gels of this type were implanted in rats, then visually observed using light microscopy. Images revealed that most of the cells had spread and appeared viable.
