Abstract
Alkyliodine(III) dichlorides 2a,b and bis(trifluoroacetate) 4, which are stabilized due to the presence of the electron-withdrawing trialkylammonium or triphenylphosphonium groups, can be prepared from readily available iodomethyl phosphonium and ammonium salts 1a,b. Decomposition of dichlorides 2 in the solution affords chloromethyl phosphonium and ammonium salts 3; the structure of the chloromethyl phosphonium salt 3b (as a tetrachloroiodinate) was established by a single-crystal X-ray analysis.
