Abstract

Municipal wastewater sludges are known to contain microorganisms capable of causing serious illness and mortality in man. Many of these organisms are responsible for waterborne diseases in the United States today. The number of documented cases of waterborne disease has been on the increase for almost two decades. Thus, it is essential that methodologies be developed to assess risks from microorganisms during sludge disposal so that appropriate criteria can be developed for their management.
