Abstract
The learning sciences is a community that celebrates and thrives on interdisciplinarity and the integration and advancement of divergent academic traditions. This paper describes our motivation for examining the potential to couple two research methodologies: interaction analysis and multimodal learning analytics. We suggest that integrating these two methodologies offers ways to advance qualitative insights about learner interactions while also augmenting the ethical commitments and methodological approaches that are not traditionally used in the field of learning analytics.
