Abstract

Is it possible to take a piece of music, composed in compliance with the rules of a given counterpoint world, and transform it into a new counterpoint conforming to a different set of rules? Could we, for example, take a Fuxian counterpoint and alter its pitches so that it becomes a valid Ionian composition (see Section 3.4)? We stated in Definitions 4.2 and 4.5 that the specifications such a transformation must meet, but we said nothing about their existence.
