Abstract
In this short review a selection of results obtained from configurational-bias Monte Carlo simulations of the self-assembled monolayers formed by chemisorption of long-chain alkyl thiols on a gold surface is presented. Topics discussed include the structural relaxation of a monolayer in response to the approach of a force-microscope tip, and the system-size dependence in monolayers simulations with respect to the formation of heterogeneous structures.
