Abstract
The rock failure was modeled around a circular opening. The results of some numerical and physical biaxial tests on Berea sandstone were also studied. The calibration procedure was confined to Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio and uniaxial compressive strength of the rock. The results of the numerical test agrees very well with those observed in the laboratory test.
