Abstract
A model of a human AVM in the rete of swine was created to investigate NBCA behavior. Embolizations were performed in both acute and chronic models using combined endovascular/surgical preparation and surgical preparation respectively. Chronic AVM models where constructed to allow the retia vessels to adjust to the altered hemodynamic conditions, a feature absent in the acute preparation. Thirty AVM models were constructed and embolized using five embolic agent compositions. Image processing and mathematical modeling were applied to the data to predict the dispersion of the various embolic agent mixtures.
