Abstract

Litigation prevention is an essential component of practicing modern medicine. Every aspect of one's patient interaction -registration, preoperative consultation, actions within the operative suite, and even moments in-between -requires professional interaction and competent recommendations to facilitate a healthy patient-provider relationship. When miscommunication happens, a medical error is made, or even when a result that does not meet the patient's expectations in the absence of an error, legal consequences may result. This chapter reviews laryngology-related litigious data and offers recommendations on avoiding the courtroom in a laryngology-specific medical practice.
