Abstract
Through air drying has been widely accepted as the process of choice for manufacturing high quality tissue and towel products. Evaluating the operating performance of existing through air dryer systems is very essential to improve and optimize their cost and energy efficiency. Two methods of determining the drying rate of through air dryers are presented. The hood heat balance and the system energy balance are two independent methods of determining the drying rates. Comparison of the drying rates by these two independent methods offers validation of the results.
