Abstract

The development in methods for extraction and composition analysis of microalgae oils is reviewed. The oil extraction techniques, such as solvent extraction, soxhlet extraction, supercritical CO2 extraction, et al., are introduced. The methods for composition analysis of microalgae oils are also reviewed. These methods include Nile red staining method, copper reagent method, Sudan black B dyeing method, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, et al. Additionally, the advantages and disadvantages of the methods are compared to provide some important information for microalgae oil research.
