Meta-analysis: On the road to synthesis of knowledge?

The future of meta-analysis is considered following an overview of its methodological procedures and the trends in their application to the psychotherapy outcome literature. Methodological issues, such as quality selection and the potential moderating effects of methods on outcomes, are addressed. Proposals for future meta-analysis reports are offered. The need for normative comparisons and the assessment and quantification of the quality of therapy are specifically recommended.
