Abstract
This chapter introduces the basic idea of MIDI messages and explains different forms of MIDI messages. MIDI messages are the “orders” sent through devices and the “keys” for the communication between different devices. There are in total seven basic MIDI message types (Note Off, Note On, Polyphonic Key Pressure, Control Change, Program Change, Channel Pressure, and Pitch Bend). Knowing what each type of message means and does can help us understand more about how MIDI works.
