Abstract

Results of an experimental investigation of fluid mechanics and heat transfer in an oscillatory flow with a time-mean velocity of zero are reported. Profiles of time resolved velocity, temperature, rms velocity fluctuations at various axial positions and at various times within the cycles are reported. Transition from laminar to turbulence, induced by turbulent flow is documented. Time varying shear stress and wall heat flux computed from the velocity and temperature profiles are also presented.
