title = "LOCATION OF ACOUSTIC EMISSIONS DURING FRACTURE OF SLIGHTLY ANISOTROPIC GRANITE.",
abstract = "Locations of energy release during controlled fracture propagation in two dimensional granite specimens were determined with acoutic emission (AE) techniques. A method was developed to account for a small directional anisotropy in wave propagation velocity. The location technique resulted in calculated locations near the microscopically visible fracture plane. The proximity of the AE events to the crack verified the usefulness of the technique to determine the location of the region of plastic deformation associated with fracture propagation - the fracture process zone. This paper presents the location techniques, before the description of the material tested and the event locations themselves.",
