Abstract
The valve discussed in this paper has been designed to limit the thickness of thrombus formation, to allow rapid covering with a smooth neointima, and at the same time to avoid the hazards of systemic anticoagulation. The manifold below the fabric of the valve allows much higher concentration of heparin to be present in the interstices of the fabric and the immediately adjacent area than would be possible with systemic anticoagulation.
