Abstract

The lifetimes of quantized persistent current states of a superconducting loop interrupted by a single Josephson junction are estimated using the techniques of random-noise theory. Numerical results are presented for physically realizable examples. In the calculations it is assumed that RC(2eI1/h{combining short stroke overlay}C)1/2≪1 a condition which may be satisfied by either a low-capacitance crossed-film junction or by a weak link.
