Abstract

A new pH sensor using single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) multilayers based on layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly with polyelectrolytes is presented. SWNTs are functionalized and assembled with polycation, poly(diallyldimethyammonium chloride, PDDA) on the microfabricated metal electrodes. Currentvoltage (I-V) characteristics show the conductance of the fabricated SWNT multilayer resistor increases with pH decrease without poly(methyl methacrylate, PMMA) on top of the multilayer as a passivation layer. The SWNT multilayer resistor with PMMA shows increased conductance at higher pH, showing an opposite pH-dependent behavior.
