Abstract

An intrinsic mechanism of nonlinear ferromagnetic relaxation in thin metallic films was proposed. Using analytic theory as well as micromagnetic simulations, it was shown that the four-magnon scattering process was responsible for a rapid decay of the k=0 mode into k ≠ 0 magnons. This mechanism dominates competing linear relaxation mechanisms and governs large angle magnetization reversal in technologically important systems.
