Abstract
The interpretation of statistics of the nuclear spin states in the orthbpara hydrogen conversion by hydrogen atoms is considered. It is shown that the observable rate coefficient (which is the sum of the forward and reverse rate coefficients for para-ortho conversion) equals the distinguishable-atom rate coefficient in the classical limit. In addition to spin-1/2 nuclei, we also consider spin-l nuclei and spin-0 nuclei.
