Abstract
Sexual health is a critical yet often overlooked component of cancer care, with significant implications for quality of life, mental health, and relationship dynamics among patients, survivors, and their partners. This chapter explores the prevalence, impact, and complexity of cancer-related sexual dysfunction, addressing models of sexuality and sexual functioning that account for bio-psychosocial, cultural, and relational aspects. In addition, sexual health concerns of adolescents and young adults (AYA), LGBTQIA+individuals, racial/ethnic minorities, and older adults are discussed. Approaches for screening and assessment are explored, including clinical interviews, validated patient-reported measures, and barriers to discussing sexual health in oncology settings. The need for patient-centered tools and improved communication strategies is emphasized to ensure sexual health concerns are integrated into survivorship care. Finally, the chapter presents a review of integrative treatment approaches, covering psychoeducation, psychological interventions, mind-body therapies, body-based therapies, and couple-based approaches. The chapter concludes with key recommendations and future directions, advocating for a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to sexual health in oncology care to ensure equitable, inclusive, and evidence-based support.
