Abstract
An improved measurement technique was developed to calculate cervical spine (CS) motion and the paths of the Instant Axis of Rotation (IAR) of the cervical vertebrae. For flexion/extension motion, it was suggested that the vertebral IAR lays in the anterior or middle region of the subjacent vertebra, or in the vertebral body itself. The theoretical error in calculating the coordinates of the IAR as a function of the measurement system specifications and marker placement on the body was also determined.
