Abstract

In order to understand the formation and removal of particulate matter during diesel combustion, both physical and chemical processes taking place must be examined. This paper presents preliminary measurements of an important physical characteristic of diesel particles, i. e. , their size distribution, as they are formed and consumed within the combustion chamber. Experimental apparatus, procedures and results are discussed.
