Abstract

An overview of the equations describing flow through compression fans is given. The equations for a compression fan based axisymmetric flow fields are rearranged in a way that makes solving the equations easier and provides physical insight into the necessary conditions for such a flow field to exist. It is shown that the flow fields for such compression fans are only self-similar in the Prandtl-Meyer planar limit, and centered-on-axis of rotation Bussemann limit. The results of various means of spanning these limits using Radial Deviation Parameters are examined.
