Abstract

Three-dimensional (3D) image reconstruction and segmentation are major breakthroughs to better understand the mechanical properties of polyurethane foams (PUF). Based on two-dimensional sectioning images taken by laser confocal microscopy, the 3D cellular structures of the PUF were recovered. Using this technique, the entire deformation process was viewed while the PUF sample was undergoing mechanical compression.
