Identification of a new pathogenic site for EAU in human S-Ag

Abstract

Evidence for a proliferative site unique to the human S-Ag-specific R17 T cell line was previously reported. A 20 residue synthetic peptide, residues 343-362, corresponding to this site was found to be actively uveitogenic in LEW rats. A 13 residue peptide from this region was also pathogenic, eliciting severe EAU at 50 μg doses and less with onset of EAU as early as 10 days. Two T cell lines were made to this site adoptively transfered EAU to LEW rats, confirming the pathogenicity of this site. This may be the major pathogenic site in human S-Ag.
