Abstract
IBM's VLSI academic program is a joint effort by IBM's Academic Information Systems business unit and its Federal Systems Division (FSD). The program establishes FSD's VLSI Master Image chip design system and methodology in a university environment. The authors describe the technical aspects of the VLSI academic program and how the design system and methodology have been integrated into university curricula. The curricula which have been implemented at Pennsylvania State University, the University of Illinois, Purdue University, and the University of Minnesota are detailed.
