Abstract

The reaction between Ru(dppeXCO)3 and ArNO2 produced CO2 and the new complex Ru(dppe)-(CO)22-ONAr), which was shown by X-ray crystallography to contain a π-bound nitrosoarene ligand. Kinetic studies using a variety of substituents on the nitroarene established that the reaction was first order in each reagent and were consistent with an electron-transfer process during the rate-determining step.
