Abstract

Experimentally determined heat transfer results were presented for a shrouded parallel-disk system with coolant throughflow; one of the disks was rotating while the other disk and the shroud were stationary. The present experiments were undertaken as a continuation of those with the objective of determining how the heat transfer characteristics are affected by changes in the coolant flow path through the system. Unfortunately, part way through the heat transfer data runs, a destructive breakdown of the rotating disk occurred (after several thousand hours of operation), and the full experimental program could not be carried out. Since there do not appear to be any heat transfer data in the literature for systems such as that investigated here, the experimental results, albeit incomplete, are presented in this note.
