Abstract

This chapter was designed to provide the reader with a brief overview of the current treatment options for human heart valve disease. Major topics of discussion are: (1) development of prosthetic valve replacements; (2) current issues with valve replacement; (3) recent advances in and the future of therapeutic options for valvular diseases; and (4) the applications of prosthetic valves for the treatments of major valvular diseases that affect humans in the western World.
