Abstract
The procedures to access safety of flavoring ingredients and flavor complexes by Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association (FEMA) Expert Panel are described. FEMA has not considered 'generally recognized as safe' (GRAS) substances as food additives. Food and Drug Administration has evaluated the safety of food flavors with the goal of protecting human health. The Panel found that corn mint oil and lemongrass oil are concluded to be GRAS under conditions of intended use as a flavoring substance.
